3 Ways to Elevate Your Cannabis Packaging

We all know that a product’s packaging creates the first impression for a potential customer, and cannabis packaging is no exception. The packaging design for your cannabis or CBD product is a critical component for building your brand and creating a loyal customer base. It’s a true reflection of your company and an opportunity to demonstrate who you are, what you stand for, and why you’re different from the rest.

Below are three ways to take your packaging to the next level:

1. Go Green

This is number one on our list for obvious reasons. We all know that there is an incredible amount of waste in the cannabis industry, particularly with single-use plastics. More and more consumers say they want brands that care about the environment and more and more companies are starting to get on board with more sustainable and ethical practices. Afterall, there are now plenty of alternatives to single-use plastic, like hemp-plastic, post-consumer recycled plastics, and our favorite – glass. Not only is glass great for protecting freshness and flavor, but it’s one of the only materials that’s infinitely recyclable. All in all, going-green with your packaging will help you reach your environmentally conscious customers and let them know you care, all while making an impact on an enormous global issue.

 2. Customize

While of course a primary role of cannabis packaging is to contain and protect your product, a role of equal - if not more – importance is to introduce your brand and make your product stand out among the others. In a room filled of shelves packed with seemingly endless cannabis and CBD products, an innovative and eye-catching package gives you the edge among the rest. Think bold colors, unique artwork, and high-quality materials. Maybe you choose to coat your jar a solid color for a sleek and opaque finish, rather than use a standard clear jar. Maybe you choose to add a shiny foil finish to your labels to capture your customers’ attention.  Or maybe you ditch the label altogether and choose to print directly on the jar. However you choose to customize your packaging, it can make a world of difference in the eyes of the consumer.

 3. Educate

This may seem a bit obvious, but whether you’re offering flower, edibles, salves, concentrates, etc., it’s important to inform your customers what exactly your product is and how to use it. The best place to do so is right on the packaging. Spell out the dosage recommendations explicitly to avoid any unpleasant trips. Let them know the sativa/indica dominance, or even give some insight on what their high will feel like. This can be super valuable info, especially for anyone who may not be familiar with cannabis terminology. Lastly, if you’re already using sustainable packaging, let it be known! As discussed in our last blog post, customers are willing to spend more on sustainable brands and products. Putting this info right on your packaging ensures your customers know you care about the future of our planet.
